Speaker Bio: Bridget Sherman
Mrs. Sherman is a graduate of Youngstown State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology with minor studies in Music and Biology. She holds a Master of Arts Degree in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, part of the City Universities of New York. Mrs. Sherman began her career in social services in 2000, at Ashtabula County Children Services where she worked as both an intake and ongoing case worker, as well as placement liaison, working with providers and children in residential treatment, therapeutic foster care, and group home settings. In January of 2015, Mrs. Sherman began working at the Ashtabula County Mental Health and Recovery Services Board, where she currently serves as the Director of Youth and Recovery Services.

The presentation will provide participants with the information about the Ohio Recovery Friendly Workplace Initiative, the benefits to employers and employees, and how to apply for the designation. Participants will learn what the Recovery Friendly Workplace designation is, how to assess their own workplace readiness for the designation based on the 9 criteria, and how to apply for the designation.

This presentation will discuss what HR Leaders should be aware of as we wrap up 2026 and heading into 2027. Compliance First, People-Focused.
Speaker Bio: Melissa Z. Kelly, JD, Partner, Tucker Ellis, LLP
Melissa Kelly draws on her years of experience as a federal clerk to provide clients realistic and practical advice on a
variety of legal issues, particularly in the areas of labor and employment, business litigation, and appellate matters.
Melissa regularly defends employers in a wide range of employment-related lawsuits. She has experience in FLSA
collective actions and employment discrimination, wrongful discharge, and employee bene?ts cases She also assists
companies with OSHA compliance and investigations and other federal agency proceedings. Melissa helps clients avoid litigation by advising them on numerous issues, including employment agreements, personnel handbooks and policies, severance agreements, and standard operating procedures.
Before joining Tucker Ellis, Melissa served as a judicial law clerk for Judge Peter W. Hall, Circuit Judge of the United
States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and, later, for Magistrate Judge Nancy A. Vecchiarelli of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. She also served as a staff attorney and immigration staff attorney for the Second Circuit.
